The MapPoint User Survey originally started in late February was scheduled to last until March 17th. We got an extention to March 31st to give us time to publish a third newsletter – we still got about 30 new responses with the last newsletter! After the 31st we finally took the links down on our landing page. However, if you still haven’t filled it out, the MapPoint User Survey is still continuing on the MapPoint Product Home Page until the middle of April.

A MapPoint 2009 Europe trial has appeared recently on Microsoft’s UK web site –
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/Mappoint/trial.aspx
Thus far, the English, German, Spanish, and Italian language versions are available. Actually I’m not sure if there was a French version in years past or if it is still coming.

The MapPoint 2009 API is unchanged from MapPoint 2006. Some very minor changes had been made between MapPoint 2002 and 2004 and 2006, but MapPoint 2009 does not contain any new Properties or other settings. The biggest and most noticeable change is the look of the interface, the buttons have a black background and can be change to Large buttons. Other notable changes including moving the Select box function from a button in the buttonpad to the right-click on the mouse. Finally, the Pushpin Symbols were updated.

MapPoint 2009 Europe (English) is available for download on MSDN for subscribers, and for a while at least, the media was available through volume licensing.
However, due to a flaw with the MapPointControl.ocx file in the distribution, MapPoint 2009 Europe will be re-released. A new download will be posted on MSDN, and new media will be provided for volume licensing. We do not know if any retail copies were produced or sold.
I don’t know about costs, but it seems a beta or even a limited, unofficial beta might have been useful!
